The momentum that has catapulted Apex Legends over Fortnite has taken a massive nosedive, following a recent patch that did more harm than good.
Following an enormous release which saw it overtake Fortnite’s perch atop Twitch, Apex Legends has stagnated since the epic release that saw it clock more than 50 million downloads.
The patch was intended to address big-fixes, but instead unleashed a number of new glitches that have haunted the game since and Respawn’s latest patch for the game, Update 1.1, resent player account progress as soon as they logged into the game.
A few hours following the release of the damaging patch, devs shut down the servers and issued a new patch that brought back the lost progress, but the damage, at least with reputation, had been done.
Respawn’s slow pace at rolling out updates and patches hasn’t helped either, especially with the aggressive fight back of Fortnite, which has seem to have a taken a lot of ideas from Apex, and polished them up for their players in Fortnite.
There has been a considerable nosedive on Twitch streams as well.
According to twitchmetrics.net, Apex Legends burst on to the scene initially with an average of around 200,000 concurrent viewers for its first couple of weeks. Since then, the game has dropped to an average of around 50k
concurrent viewers.
With an uninspiring release of their Battle Pass, Apex Legends seems to be doing everything wrong after starting out doing everything so right.
It will be interesting to see if Respawn will be able to right the ship and can turn things around moving forward.
