Twitch is under watch as they continue to seemingly ignore the latest racial slur used by Fortnite streamer Turner “Tfue” Tenney, who appeared to use the slur during a live stream of him playing Minecraft.

According to The Verge, Twitch declined to comment on Tenney’s use of the slur, which is explicitly against its community guidelines, saying only that it does not comment on individual streamers, and this marks the continuation of a troubling trend from the streaming platform.
Tfue recently got into some hot water for calling another player “coon”, which earned him a Twitch suspension. Tfue was also suspended in a separate incident, which would make the latest violation his 3rd, and according to Twitch’s policies, it can be costly.
“After two strikes, the next violation will result in an indefinite suspension, but some severe violations will result in an indefinite suspension on the first violation.”
So, according to the guidelines, Tfue would be gone, along with his 7 million followers, the wnd most followed channel on Twitch, and therein lies the problem.
Twitch continues to demonstrate that if you’re one of the popular, lucrative streamers, you can dodge clear violations, regardless how vile.
From Alinty committing acts of animal abuse on stream, to female streamers getting away with pretty much anything, to Amouranth’s continuous violations, Twitch has shown that the big money makers get to skate past rules. The sentiment is nothing new, and many streamers continue to call out Twitch.
All eyes are on Twitch, but it’s unlikely that they will do the right things, because they have continuously failed to demonstrate an ability to do so in the past.
