Twitch has invested heavily, over the past year, in keeping some of their most popular Twitch streamers exclusively streaming on their platform, which led to big contracts handed out to streamers such as Imane ”Pokimane” Anya. Pokimane is easily one of the most popular streamers Twitch has, with close to 4 million followers.
However, Pokimane dodged an immediate ban from Twitch for accidentally streaming NSFW content after clicking on a link during a broadcast on May 19th, according to DOT Esports’ Rachel Samples.
Pokimane stated that she received a warning, via email, from Twitch citing “accidental and/or brief nudity or sexual content”, and states a Community Guidelines warning has been issued to her account, warning that a second offense may come with a suspension.
While Twitch may still hand down a suspension, nothing has been levied at the time of this writing, and the muddied history of how Twitch handles/polices bans and suspensions has been a hot topic among the streaming community for years. It has also sparked a call for Twitch to ban Pokimane. Even some popular streamers have called for Twitch to ban her.
Pokimabe explained during a recent stream: “But yeah, they definitely do give you a warning,” Pokimane said, according to Dexerto. “They’re like, ‘You have to be really careful about that kind of stuff.’ I’ve definitely had issues like that in the past, too. It’s just that I’ve been streaming for so long that it’s not very frequent — or it’s not frequent enough to lead to a ban.”
Pokimane then addressed the chatter of a double standard, saying; “Just so you guys know, it’s not the vagina!” Pokimane said, jokingly. “Literally yesterday, me and Connor both accidentally leaked something.”
It will be interesting to see what kind of marketing Pokimane may employ to help repair any damage this caused. From Content Creator SEO to Reputation Management, there are certainly viable options available.
