Today marks the day that Google will officially shut down the YouTube Gaming App, as the company who once wanted to overtake Twitch atop the streaming market, is backing off.
While the app is shutting down today, Google emphasized that it will “continue to build a stronger home for the gaming community that thrives on YouTube.”
Although it may seem like defeat, Google’s decision is smart, as it will bring all of YouTube’s broadcasters and viewers all under one roof again, the main website, and prevents them from undergoing the daunting task of unifying all of Google and YouTube’s streaming products under one umbrella.
Google is also prepping for the launch of Stadia, which Google is hoping is their next “big thing”.
